10/10/08 - 10/12/08 8 pm Nayada and the Fisherman and Walpurgis Night International Ballet Nayada and the Fisherman, is the story of a young fisherman who finds an unusual catch - a beautiful nymph. He sets the nymph free, but she follows the fisherman back to his village, where she is greeted by the villagers, and, of course, his girlfriend. Nayada and the Fisherman is a charming one act ballet with pleasantly varied choreography by Jules Perrot (Giselle) and music by Cesare Pugni. Walpurgis Night is a ballet from Gounods opera Faust. Act V of the opera is set on Walpurgis Night, meaning Witches' Night, when allegedly the witches hold a large celebration and await the arrival of spring. Although the Walpurgis Night ballet sequence from Act V is often omitted from staged opera performances due to high costs, it is frequently performed separately as part of a ballet program due to its popularity. Friday, October 10, 2008 7 pm Film of Phantom of the Opera With Organist Dorothy Papadakos South Carolina Ballet South Carolina Ballet Association presents the 1929 Universal Pictures Silent Film Phantom of the Opera accompanied by world renowned organist Dorothy Papadakos. The film features Hollywood legend Lon Cheney as the Phantom. This presentation will benefit South Carolina Ballet's Outreach, offering dance instruction to under served children in the Upstate. Silent Film accompaniment is nearly a lost art form, but organist Dorothy Papadakos performs brilliantly. As the film's live accompanist she has received rave reviews for this production and performed to sellout crowds in major cities throughout the U.S. and internationally. Don't miss this amazing two-day autumn tour of some of the most beautiful, unique, and historically significant places in the Upstate! Upstate Forever holds conservation agreements on all ten of these properties, ensuring that they will remain special places forever. On Saturday October 11, we'll visit five properties in Greenville and Spartanburg Counties: Blythe-Goodwin-Hagood House, Mountain Bridge Passage, Greenspace of Fairview (formerly Fairview Farm), Four Columns Farm, and Berry's Mill Pond. Don't miss this amazing two-day autumn tour of some of the most beautiful, unique, and historically significant places in the Upstate! Upstate Forever holds conservation agreements on all ten of these properties, ensuring that they will remain special places forever. On Saturday October 11, we'll visit five properties in Greenville and Spartanburg Counties: Blythe-Goodwin-Hagood House, Mountain Bridge Passage, Greenspace of Fairview (formerly Fairview Farm), Four Columns Farm, and Berry's Mill Pond. On Saturday, October 18, we'll visit five properties in Pickens and Oconee Counties: Greenbrier Farms, Ramsey Creek Preserve, Rocky Fork Farm, Fall Creek, and Stumphouse Mountain. At each stop, a landowner or local expert on the property will speak about the site's importance and showcase some its most remarkable features.
