Those Crazy Ladies in the House on the Corner
By:   Pat Cook
Comedy
What do you do when you have three geriatric sisters as patients and all they want to do is sit at home and talk to one anotherÑall at the same time? You move another person in with them. At least, that's what Doc Lomax does when he has a new nurse needing a place to liveÑa nurse with a secret, that is. The hard part is convincing the sisters they need a roomer. In no time, however, Nurse Jean has them planning parties, pulling Halloween pranks and wearing jogging suits while they race each other to the corner. But when the nephew shows up with a plan to sell the family house, things seem to get complicated again, especially with Christmas just around the corner. This heartwarming piece is loaded with wisecracks and one-liners that keep the laughter flowing.

The Glass Menagerie
"The Glass Menagerie" (1945) is the play that launched Tennessee Williams' career. Within two weeks of its opening it had garnered the New York Drama Critics Circle Award and later won the Donaldson Award and the Sidney Howard Memorial Award. This most autobiographical of Williams' plays tells the heartbreaking tale of the Wingfield family, Amanda, Tom and his sister, Laura, who are remnants of the Old South and refugees from a world of gentility and grace.
"The Glass Menagerie's doomed Wingfield family-its vanished father the "telephone man who fell in love with long distances"-is one of the great representations of the defeated South, forever on the wrong side of history. Almost any production of this exquisite play is worth seeing."-Ada Calhoun, "New York Magazine"

Almost Maine
On a Friday night in deepest winter, the residents of the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine (so far north it's almost in Canada) are falling in and out of love in unexpected, unusual, and often hilarious ways.  As the northern lights hover magically overhead, knees are getting bruise, and hearts are getting broken.  But the bruises heal and hearts mend --almost-- in this delightful romantic comedy where 4 actors play 19 different characters.  "These tales of love in the time of frostbite have a winning glow that's contagious! -NY Sun

Bluegrass runs in the family with this Mom, Dad, and their four kids. Called, "the hottest new act in bluegrass," by The Associated Press, they stormed the Billboard charts with two hit albums and two Grammy nominations in the last three years. Manuelo the Playing Mantis
Lollipops Series
featuring the GSO String Quintet
The lonely praying mantis wishes he made music as wonderful as the Symphony he overhears or the crickets who rub their legs against their wings to make a beautiful sound.  Through hardwork and teamwork, the praying mantis becomes a "playing mantis" in this "charming" tale of  determination and friendship by the late Don Freeman.
"Lollipops" concerts introduce children to classical music and the instruments of the orchestra through interactive concerts presented by members of the GSO.  During each concert, chamber ensembles perform while a storybook about music is read.  And of course, audience members receive a lollipop at the end of each performance!

Composed of five young and fiercely talented musiciansChris Thile (mandolin), Gabe Witcher (fiddle), Chris Eldridge (guitar), Noam Pikelny (banjo), and Greg Garrison (bass)the band has captured the attention of music lovers across genres. As the San Francisco Chronicle asks, 'Why didn't someone think about mixing bluegrass, jazz and classical music together sooner? Chris Thile, former mandolinist and singer for the Grammy-winning band Nickel Creek, is doing it with his new outfit, Punch Brothers, and the result is totally mind-blowing.' The groups first album, How to Grow a Woman from the Ground, received a Grammy Award nomination, and the bands 2007 Nonesuch Records debut Punch which featured Thiles ambitious four-movement chamber suite, The Blind Leaving the Blind received tremendous critical acclaim.

GSATC Learning Lunch with Bob Inglis
The search for an alternative fuel economy isn't just good for the environment, if the experts are right, it could be a matter of national security. How might the United States develop and deploy existing technologies to allow to create power from something other than fossil fuels? How is the Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology progressing? What might we see next?
What role does SC's research institutions play in the deployment of that technology? What initiatives in Congress prepared to support?
Join us as we pose these questions and more to Congressman Bob Inglis, who serves as the ranking member of the Energy & Environment Subcommittee on Science and Technology, one of four subcommittees on Science in the US House of Representatives.
