Saturday July 12, 2008 2 pm - 3:30 pm Discovering Croft's Military Training Camp Croft State Natural Area Croft State Natural Area has its origins in military history. Once known as Camp Croft, an infantry replacement training center, the land was turned over to the South Carolina Forestry Commission after the training center was shut down after World War II. Through pictures and stories, we will discuss the role Camp Croft played during World War II. We are always looking for stories, memorabilia and first hand accounts, so if you experienced Camp Croft or know someone who did, we encourage you to come and share your stories. Tuesday July 15, 2008 9 am - 3 pm Nature Detective in the Forest Paris Mountain State Park In this one-day camp, spend the day with a ranger, using detective skills to get to know forest creatures and their habitats. Participants will go on a forest scavenger hunt, do a one-square-meter investigation of the forest, use clues to identify trees, birds and reptiles, play games, and use the park lab's Enviroscape. Everyone takes home a pine cone birdfeeder, forest ID booklet, bandana, and their own bug jar/magnifier (without the bug). Bring lunch and a drink.
